Axim vs. Toshiba

My wife mentioned that she might be interested in her own PDA. I have ordered a Toshiba e755 to see how I like it. I want to compare it to the Axim. I wish there was more definitive information on the X3?

The Toshiba E755 is much better specced than the Axim so it could be argued it is a better PDA. However, my friend has a Toshiba E740 and they dropped support for it like a hot stone after less than a year - while it was still being sold in the shops. Plus they have no upgrade to PPC2003 planned for it. This means that, although it has a Xscale 400 CPU in it, it runs like a dog. Toshiba are the pits in this respect so I wouldn't buy one if I were you - stick to the Axim. Or buy a h2210 :)

Well I bought the Toshiba e755(2003), and although it screams along speed wise, I find the screen bothersome. Although I love the extra real estate, things are not as sharp or crisp as on my Axim. When I enabled clear type, the screen became blurry. I will admit putting my reading glasses on did help! I don't have to wear them with my Axim though. WI-FI was a breeze. It asked if I had a WEP key and once entered, immediately connected itself to the internet. I tried using a 3rd party PIM and after a short period it froze solid. I had to do a hard reset to clear it. I did go look at the Ipaq 2210/15 and really liked what I saw. Small size CF/SD, & bluetooth. I only wish it had WI-FI built in. I am going to be sending the Toshiba back and getting the Ipaq instead. I am sure when my wife sees my Ipaq she is going to want it and not the Axim. The problem now is trying to find a belt holster for the new Ipaq.

When I purchased a Toshiba E740, I bought it at the same time PPC 2003 came out. I eagerly went to upgrade to PPC 2003, only to find this model wasn't listed. When I called Toshiba, they TOLD me to take it back, they were not going to support the E740 anymore. SO, I took it back and Staples cheerfully refunded my money.

I could go on about Toshiba's support history, and the irony that this model is still being sold much more expensive than my Beloved Axim.

Oh, we need a support group... They offered me $200 in their Toshiba catalog because they caused me so much grief. I ordered 3 DLT tapes. :p I really wanted the Toshiba t-shirt though....
