Question Problem setting up CF Modem for e-mail

I have spent the past week trying to set up my Axim, with a CF modem (CF-56K_Modem_CTR21) to log onto my e-mail account. I go to Settings>Connections>Connections>Internet Settings> Modify>New. I follow the instructions in Axim Help and in the Manual closely and always get the same message when it fails to connect:

'Your user name or password is wrong. Please reconnect and verify your user name and password. If the problem continues turn the device off and try again'

As you can imagine I've double double treble checked my user name and password and turned the Axim off and on and off and on .......No joy.

I've tested the modem by putting my telephone number in the set-up and that rings out OK, when the phone is picked up you hear a series of high-pitched beeps.

I tried it on a friends Axim with exactly the same result.

So it looks like both the modem and the Axim are innocent so the guilty party must be me doing something wrong in Settings.

I've done a hard reset and set-up the modem (no Services defined in InBox) in Internet Settings and tried to connect from the button on the Connections sheet, with the same result. On the Connnecting sheet I can see that the correct ISP access number is being dialed.

The only clue (?) I have is when I've tried to connect and then returned to the Network Log On sheet, my username is still correct but in the password box is a whole row of high-lighted asterisks (many more than the number of letters in my password) and in the Domaine box my entry has been shortened from gsmail.com to gsmail.

I've now completely run out of ideas. Please will someone tell me what I'm doing wrong. Mobile e-mail is the main reason I bought the Axim so I'm desperate and my husband is sick of scratch dinners!

Hi,

I just received my dell axim today and encountered the same problem. I cannot connect to the Internet. I do have e EagleTec 56k Modem-CF-Card.
The Password of my internet connection also automatically changes although I changed it. Very strange indeed. Hopefully someone can help
