I want to buy Dell Axim 300 because I need PDA to read ebooks
(txt files ) etc. I want to use Mobireader and Microsoft Reader.
Has anybody used these software. How fast do they work ?
Is reading comfortable enough ? How long do I have to wait to look up anknown word in dictionary ?
Thanks
Slawek

If you have the dictionary running you should be able to immediately switch between the applications. I believe you can have pretty much as many applications running as you want, within reason of course.

MS Reader is really nice ---- However for the small screen I've found the Palm Reader for PocetPC (Peanutpress) has less whitespace and easy to use interface. The result is 25% less paging to get through the book. It supports bookmarks Chapters etc. & there is a free writer to convert text files. (besides lots of media already in this format).

Does Palm reader import .lit files? if so I may switch over. Always looking for a new reader. I also read ebooks alot.
Slawekpar, the speed of the ebook will depend on what media you have your ebook in, and how big your book is.

If you're using MS-Reader with Encarta dictionary, you can simply highlight the word in question and click on 'lookup' -- results are almost instantaneous. Mind you tho, don't try looking up a word using the search method, because using that method could take up to minutes!
Cheers.

I have heard of a .lit extractor. The Palm reader just reads .pdb files I suppose you could extract the .lit to text , Convert to .pdb --- But this seems to be a lot for a little.

I am using MS reader and it works well, easy to read and navigate through. I had peanut reader on my Palm and it worked OK, I have not used it on the PPC though. I am interested in Mobi-reader as they have a bunch of titles, like to hear what some mobi users have to say about it....K

MS Reader looks pretty. However, it's quite slow and has a hard time handling large files.
Better yet, try TomeRaider. It uses an absurdly efficient compression ratio, is extremely fast and compact, and can
handle the most massive files with ease. Its search function is very quick and versitile, and unlike Microsoft Reader, it
doesn't require you to go "activate" the damn thing each time you install it. Lastly, TomeRaider's "open file" interface
is much more useful, for finding the books you want to read, on your PDA.
Two thumbs up.
TomeRaider can be downloaded here
A small description, and some free eBooks
Thousands of free DOC, PDA, and eBook files for every platform

I have tried using Acrobat, ms reader, pocket word and mobipocket to read ebooks. I have found mobipocket to be the best reader by far. It allows more text to be displayed on screen, has margins, a library, supports word, txt, palm formats.. and probably html. Microsoft reader displays far less text per screen so you have to page down more. The only thing I don't like about it is that the text seems skinnier than the text in pocket word. I converted a .txt file to .lit to see if it would look as good in ms reader as it does in pocket word, but it looked the same as in mobipocket. So I've been using mobipocket for all my reading. I might try this peanutpress palm reader to see how it looks.
