Has anyone used wireless public hotspots on the 802.11b network in Public areas. I was interested in it but wasn't sure how public(free). Just wandering if anyone had experience with this and what you use to access it.

I watch the UPS truck drive by hoping and wishing they are bringing me my Axim :)

I recently purchased a Netgear wirelkess cf card from costco when they were selling for 19.99 I have recieved it and have used it with some success. I got a great signal outside of my girlfriends apartment and she doesn't have a wireless network. Must have just picked up a signal from someone else in the building. I also get a signal in almost all of the major buildings on the campus of the University of Central Florida. I'll continue to look for spots but if anyone else knows of them in the Orlando area let me know.

I understand that some are making drawing on the ground to indicate where there is a hot wifi signal.

Is this being done where you're getting your signals?

I remember running across a map of Toronto (where I live) with hotspots.. but I can't find it.. if there are alot of places that I could get net access then I'd consider pickin up a wifi card (since I don't have a wireless AP at home.. .yet)

$19.99 for a wireless card ?!?!

How long ago was this that you found it? There's a Costco right down the road...

Someone else on this forum gave me this link to Wireless Bandit. Really sweet! :P
Cheers.

I went "wardriving" (er..."warwalking is more accurate) at the Beverly Center (i.e., a large indoor mall with expensive stores) today in Los Angeles. No free WiFi networks there. Damn. I often eat at their food court when I get a lunch cancellation. It woulda been perfect.
