I just read a thread here on how many axims have you had... sort of scarey! I was thinking of getting the advanced 400 model there... any advice?

Linda,

Refurbished units can be great. Here are the main concerns to watch for:

1) Make sure there is a warranty and how much is remaining.
2) Make sure the seller is the owner and has rights to transfer the warranty into your name. If they don't have the orginal information on the owner then the warranty is useless since Dell wont transfer it into your name.
3) Make sure either they transfer the warranty into your name OR you get all the information required by the warranty and transfer it yourself. The latter is a better solution since you'll know it's done right.
4) Make sure that there are NO scratches on the screen. Even a minor ding can be very annoying.
5) Make sure you know what processor your getting, not just a 300 or 400 but wether it's a 250 or a 255. IMHO, There is a difference in speed so the cost should reflect this.
6) What accessories come with it (Cradle, keyboard, etc).
7) Which OS?
8) Overall cosmetics and condition.

This is a good list to start by. You can see I rate the warranty as the most important concern. I wouldn't buy any PPC without one.

Good Luck!!

I am assuming by the looks of that image that Star meant "Just Do It"...

I'm sorry I think I wasn't too clear... Dell has refurbished items on their site. Those are the ones i was looking at, so they do have a very good warrenty. Has anyone bought a refurbished axim off of Dell's site? I don't trust ebay...

Linda,

I have a refurbished unit I bought back in June. So far I haven't had any major problems. In fact any problems I have had, most notably loosing everything I had on a Sandisk SD card, which wasn't much, has been experienced by those that have bought brand new. I saved a few bucks by going refurbished but one wouldn't be able to tell just by looking at. It looks virtually brand new. It has the PC 2002 OS but I think I ordered it about a week before the official release of the new OS. Further, judging from some of the issues concering the new OS, I'm glad I got PC2002. I'm going to wait and see how things shake out on that issue. In the meantime, I have a great little machine and I am quite satisfied with it. While it may not be everything some of the more spendy units boast, it is a great deal for he money.

Refurbs from manufacturers are generally very good as you get a warranty. How much are you saving? If it's more than 25% I would go for it.
