Good choice on the ax.
1. If you want a nicely padded high quality leather case, go for the Piel Frama (68 Dollars) or the Vaja case (anywhere from about 70-100+ Dollars.) But if you need to withstand bumps and scrapes, check out the Rhinoskin Aluminum case or the DSI Holster Case.
2. Battery Pack 2003 gives memory/battery info and can close programs when the "X" is pressed, plus has many more features. Never used the programs you mentioned, so I'm not too sure. Also, the Axim has a built-in task-switcher program.
3. Not that I know/heard of. Check with Socket to make sure, though.
4. The full size is much better, especially if you have enough space for it and want to type almost as fast as you can on a laptop or regular keyboard. If you just need to jot down things quick, the snap on is fine, and costs less than half of the full size keyboard.
5. Not sure, check with Socket, and maybe handango for database apps.
6. No freeware, but there is Nyditot Virtual Display and JS Landscape
