Activesync won't start on Axim -- fires up, then dies
Hi,
For some ungodly reason Activesync (3.5) has decided to quit working on my Axim (works fine on my pc). I click on it to start it and it seems to initially start but then goes away.
I searched this forum and found one post that said to delete the WCELOAD file from the windows directory (I haven't done that yet) and a reply from another poster with the same problem as me saying to search the forum because the solution is given in another thread.
But, I couldn't find it, unless deleting the WCELOAD file is it.
Can anyone direct me to the solution to this problem? I'm dead in the water as far as syncing and backups are concerned until I get Activesync running again.
Thanks,

Does windows active sync recognize the device? (ie. the taskbar circle starts spinning green)
Activesync on the axim should only stay open until it recognizes the device then it dissapears into the background.

No, it doesn't get that far. When I insert the Axim in the cradle I can see Activesync starting at the top of the Axim's display, but then it dies. Likewise when I try to manually start Activesync on the Axim it initially starts and, again, just dies.
FWIW, this is connecting to my work pc; I have a guest account on my home pc and Activesync does the same thing there to. So, I'm assuming there's something wrong with Activesync on the Axim.
Thanks,
--Walt

any more info when it "dies"???
Hey Walt-
I had a problem awhile back with my 3,5 active sync "degrading" over time. It would start to sync, but it would drop off the tasks portion..eventually, it would go into a loop mode where it tried to sync (spinning green circle) but the spiining circle would go on for about 5 minutes until it would time out and give me an error message (Unable to sync)...duh!
I believe it was a corrupt app that was causing the problem, because my backup sd card wouldn't even restore it. Unfortauntely, it took a cold, hard reset and a re-install of Active sync (I kept 3.5) with a new folder name, to get me up and running again..

Wow, that sounds painful. I think I'll explore my options a bit before going that route. :>)
Thanks,

Yeah, it was (OUCH!!!). Another somewhat less painful scenario (if all esle fails) would be to call up Dell Support. Yeah you'll have to go through soft-resets etc., however they will walk you through the process and let you return it if all else fails...Best of luck, Walt.

Okay, thanks for the info. I'll give Dell a call as a last resort. :>)

Have had my ax 3 days and today had the same problem. when I plug into cradle it starts to sync and then my ax says not connected, on my pc the circle spins green. I removed it and put it back in the cradle a couple of times and it finally worked. Wonder if this is a connection problem.

Okay, so last night I solved the ActiveSync problem just by doing a soft reset. I was hoping to get to the bottom of why ActiveSync wouldn't run but finally gave up.
Ohi, well. <heavy sigh>. At least things are back to normal, for now....

A SOFT RESET??? A SOFT RESET, he says?????
Dang, that's all that was needed Mr. Walt!!!???? ;)
Please, when my ax has problem, I'll perform a soft reset faster than a cat can lick it's butt...
To the best of my knowledge, it does no harm and actually gets the cobwebs out that can clog the little sucker up (check out the related threads on how often people perform soft resets)...
All kidding aside, glad it worked out for you and you were able to avoid the other MUCH more painful re-set/restore!!!! :D
