Speed Comparison - built-in, main, SD
I ran across an odd situation while evaluating a software package from a major developer. I installed it to the Built-in memory in my Axim Advanced (PPC2002). The program has a very large database associated with it.
Load times were extremely long - 57 seconds. The developer acknowledged the problem and suggested using main memory or a memory card instead, and stated that the operating system is very inefficient when accessing built-in memory.
Seemed odd, but I uninstalled the package and reinstalled it to main memory. The load time was 7 seconds. Wow!
I uninstalled and reinstalled to my SD card (Sandisk 256 meg) and the load time was 5 seconds!
Anyone experience anything like this before? Is this an operating system problem for all built-in memory access, or is it specific to certain programming techniques?

Never saw anything load faster from an sd card compared to main memory, but main memory should definately be your fastest load times. If you load from Built-in memory, the path is: built-in > ram and same with SD: SD Card > Ram, but when it's stored in main memory, it should already be in ram.

I agree w/mike007 your main mem. should be the FASTEST, then your sd card, then your very slow built in storage. The only thing your built in storage is good for is a backup.

Not to disagree with the posts above, but I store Mapopolis, PocketMusic, PocketNester (and roms) all in my built-in storage (why not use the space?).
Mapopolis and PocketNester load in <1 sec, PocketMusic takes about 3 seconds. Once they are loaded they are in RAM anyway, so no performance issues.
