Hi gang,

I just got my Axim 300 from Dell. Woohoo! Anyway, I love the pristine nature of the screen -- I put on a screen protector, and even with no bubbles, etc., I don't like the look of it with the protector.

If I take good care of my machine (ie., always have in case when not using), will my screen hold up okay through normal use without a screen cover?

This is my first PPC, and I am sure not any kind of experienced user - but - after reading this and other forums I put WriteShield protectors on. I was just tapping along a few days later and discovered that the nylon tip of the stylus had come off, and I was tapping with the rough edge of the stylus. Needles to say I was relieved to have the protector on.

Yeah, we all take great care of our units, however its that one slip up with a stylus-pen combo or something when you forget to switch the tip and you create a huge scratch or line across the screen that gets most of us.

I have write shields, they dont have that too-reflective look to them, and they are virtually invisible after teh first hour of using them, there is a big difference between screen protectors, you need to shop around for the best one.oO(WriteShields!)

:D

I consider them necessary. My wife and kids played Solitaire every chance they could during the Christmas/New Year's Holiday break and I now have little scratches on the screen where they were using the stylus most often.

They are admittedly very tiny, light scratches but they bug the perfectionist in me.

I put the screen protectors on the minute they arrived, but would have banned game playing until they were installed had I known better...

I find the little bit of extra sliding resistance I can feel writing with the screen protector in place actually makes my handwriting easier for the transcriber to translate since it makes my handwriting neater...

Good luck,

George

Aside from the WriteShields already mentioned, what other protectors are people using? Has anyone tried more than one brand or type? I am just looking to find the best to keep my Axim safe.

I have been very pleased with the one from Brando, but it's about $13 delivered. For 1.

I honestly think WriteShields are the best. I have also used WriteRights while I was waiting for the WriteShields to be delivered.

If you want to save some money, try making your own screen protectors. Below is a link to all the information you'll need.

The normal comes with 3 shields & some wet/dry cloths. The deluxe comes with that plus a bottle of cleaning fluid & 2 cleaning cloths.

Cheers!

Snickerpuss is right. I originally ordered the delux. THis time I only ordered the regular. It really isn't worth it. I put the WriteShields on using the bathroom trick which cuts down on dust, and once you get them on, you really don't have to clean the protector that often. When I do, I just use the eyeglass cloth that I use for my glasses. I did use the fluid for my laptop screen, though. :D
