I just ordered a GPS today, and am already in planning mode on how to get it rigged in my vehicle. What I would ideally like is to have my axim sound routed to my car stereo, that way I can listem to MP3's and hear the GPS directions from my car speakers -- does anyone know what I would need to do to accomplish this? I have just a CD/Radio deck in my car, so I can't use one of those cheapie tape adapters... it is a Rockford Fosgate source unit, and I believe there were some audio inputs on it when we were installing it, but now they are tucked in the back of the source -- I don't want to go through the pain of ripping the unit out to run a wire back there if there is a easier/better way.
Have you thought about FM modulator thing? You can get it at Radio Shack or . Does your stereo have Aux input in the front? (My old Sony car stereo (CD player& Radio)had it and that was nice) Then I am sure you know that the best way to use the patch cord.
I'm pretty sure that there is a radio sender type device you can get. Takes the sounds from your headphones and broadcasts it so you can pick it up on your radio. I think. I could be wrong.
Check with your local radio shack maybe, even if they don't have it the guys there might have seen it.

the GPS does not give directions though, the GPS gives Long/Lat coordinates to the Axim, the Axim speaks the directions and then the Axim can feed it to the transmitter. That's how I have it setup. I'm not sure why it would not work?

Oh i get it now, I guess I needed it broken down for me:bang:
Rock: i have had some bad luck with those FM broadcasters, an old coworker had a car that just had a radio tuner, so he bought one of those (not the radio shack brand one) for his discman. We would sit there with the thing right next to the radio and it was really fuzzy -- holding it as close to the antenna as possible didnt help that much either. :\

Howard, are you using one of those FM adapters? If it works for you I'll try picking one up after work, worse case scenario is I'll return it if it doesn't work to well.
my wife and i ran her laptop thru her car stereo, all we did was plug a bass line with a volume control dial on it to the sub outlet and an aux line. stereo runs as normal, then when we want to play mp3 or dvd we plug in the aux and bass line to the laptop and it bypasses the stereo. 2 simple plugs and thats all...so we tried it with my ax in my jeep...same thing, rum my winamp, plug in the headphone jack and run to my aux on my deck,i have a seperate line used as a gain control, keep the volume down on the deck and use the volume dial on the cord.

oh..we also have a power converter box to power the laptop..or axim,it converts the dc power to the currant it needs.
its really pretty simple as long as u get the right cords for the deck and computer u have...it took us 4 or 5 diff cords, from radio shack,,and wasting about $40-$50 on cords and plugs we didnt need...but it jams now!! very clean sound!!

My wife bought a CD walkman with its "car kit" which includes a plastic "cassette" that plugs into the headphone jack on the player, and feeds signals to the head in the tape deck.
Just for grins I tried it recently with my Axim and it worked pretty well.
You should be able to buy these things just about anywhere.
