Hard Reset and ActiveSync

I had to perform a hard reset on my Axim. Backed up all data prior to the reset. Now I can't sync to my original info because activesync defaults to "guest status" and tells me I already have a device named "PocketPC".

Solution please?

You need to go into ActiveSync on the PC and select File-Delete Partnership. Then go into the PPC and go to the Settings-About control and give your PPC a name (try not to use the underscore "_" character cause is messes up WiFi drive sharing).

Once you reset these two items, use the cradle for the first sync. ActiveSync will ask you to create a new partnership and then will sync properly.

You have to do this anytime you hard reset.

If i delete the existing partnership, all info specific to that device is deleted from the PC too. I would rather not reconstruct all my stuiff if I don't have to.

If you have already backed up, deleting the partnership should not delete all your data. Everytime I do a hard reset, I make sure I have a current backup and delete the current partnership. After the hard reset, I sync and then re-establish the partnership under the SAME device name. I don't need to sync as a guest or rename my device since the original partnership was deleted.

If you want to make sure you do not delete your back up, I would suggest that you back up to a memory card (if you have one) and then restore from it instead of from your PC.
