Hi John
Yeah it looks great... I guess someone is going to have to compile it for the arm though. Are you going to volunteer

VNC Viewer has been compiled for PocketPC 2002. And it works.
http://www.cs.utah.edu/~midgley/wince/vnc.html.
Note that if you want to connect to VNC Server on your desktop computer via serial or USB ActiveSync, you'll need to add the following registry entry to your desktop PC, via RegEdit.:
Under the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ORL\WinVNC3
Add Binary value AllowLoopback
Set value to 1.
(This is because traffic via serial/USB ActiveSync appears to originate from the desktop PC itself, and VNC Server by default doesn't allow a PC to connect with itself, for obvious reasons.)
If you're not comfortable working with Regedit, go view some tutorials first. I won't be held responsible if someone messes up his/her system.
One annoying problem I've found with VNC Viewer on the PocketPC is that tapping first in one spot, then in another, is sometimes interpreted as a click-and-drag on the host computer. Very unnerving trying to tap the [Start] button, for example, and seeing that the host PC thinks you've selected and are trying to drag a group of icons onto it. ;)
'Hope this helps,
-Bill

Is there something with this software that makes it better to use than the existing Terminal Services client that comes on the Axim? I realize that the desktop PC being controlled must also have a Terminal Services host installed, but XP (OS I am using on all my PC's) already has that feature. Would this VNC Viewer give me any better options or features?

Terminal services does basically the same thing, but I think the performance is better, and it is built into the OS. If you are using this, VNC isn't going to be any better.

VNC is a pretty good remote control product. It is free, but it has one downside. It slows down the computer that you are controlling. When you install it, you load a 'server' version on the computer you want to control, and a 'viewer' version on the computer you use to access the controlled computer. When we used it on our LAN on a trial basis for remote shadowing (a common training and support usage), it caused the computer being controlled to run noticeably slower. Also, the computer being controlled must be 'logged on' or you cant view/control it.
Enjoy,

Definitely go with Terminal Services if you have it.
However, for those of us who don't have XP, VNC is the way to go.
Two observations:
I don't notice any significant slowdown on any of my machines running VNC Server.
I can connect to any of these machines (all run Win 98SE) before login has occurred and enter the Windows/Client for Microsoft Networks password via VNC.

I've been using the desktop version of VNC Viewer for years...tried Terminal Services / Remote Desktop but found it much worse in performance.

I've used several remote control software applications. PCAnywhere, VNC, TightVNC, and Terminal Services.
Of all of them Termindal Services was easily the best, PC anywhere was also good with VNC being in dead last. TightVNC is recompiled code of VNC and it runs noticeably better then VNC. No more crazy screen refreshes to do.
I don't like pocket VNC - I can't get it to resolve names on the lan and for some reason the address has to have a :0 behind it. (yes I have wins properly configured)
Just my thoughts. I like tightvnc - it's free. www.tightvnc.com

I'll back that up too, LeapinLew. I've used all of those plus Timbuktu and Remotely Possible. VNC has always been the slowest. When it first came out it was AWFUL. I remember using it over 10baset and I could go grab a beer and come back before it was done drawing the mouse movement. It is much better now, however.
It has two things going for it though. It's free and it can run across multiple platforms - Unix/Linux, MacOS, Windows and PocketPC.
