Help request from an X5 user

I have an X5, and have been using it for a long time.
I have aDell Foldable Keyboard that used to work, but the drivers won't load for me anymore.

So, I was wondering if someone would load the drivers, they don't need to have the keyboard, and copy two files to send to me?
I need the installed DAT and CAB files.
\\Windows\\AppMgr\\Dell Foldable Keyboard(US) V2.07.DAT
\\Windows\\AppMgr\\Install\\Dell Foldable Keyboard(US) V2.07.CAB

Here is a post with the details:
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/1533185-post6.html

Here is the link to the drivers, from the Dell site:
Drivers & Downloads

After you copy the files, and send them to me, you can just uninstall the drivers from your Axim.

I really appreciate this.
Thanks

Couldn't you just extract these files from the Dell's CAB file and copy them to your device? I would help you out, but my Axim was left at home. If your still looking for help, I can try tomorrow.

I could not find the CAB file on Dell's site, or from multiple searches on the internet.

I found a cab file from (I think) the install on my computer FoldableKeybd.ARM.CAB, which does not match the filename from the registry entry, so my guess is that this is the install file ActiveSync sends to my Axim.
I opened this on my computer, and it's contents do not match the files listed in the registry.

So, I copied the CAB file to my Axim and tried the install there. This did not seem to do anything different.

Ok, I re-read your posts. The CAB file you are looking for was probably deleted after it was installed. This should not effect the program and is typical for ActiveSync installations. You can use CabInstl to control this behavior and allow the CAB file to be retained on the device after the install. You can also use MSCEInf for the desktop to analyze the contents of FoldableKeybd.ARM.CAB and you will see that it's internal name is Dell Foldable Keyboard(US) V2.07.CAB, which is the file you are looking for.The other file you are looking for "Windows\\AppMgr\\Dell Foldable Keyboard(US) V2.07.DAT" is also not critical and I think it only records what occurs during the installation (what files are copied where and possibly registry changes).

Something else must be going on.

Thanks, the MSCEInf is pretty cool.

As for the CAB file being deleted, I did use CabInst when I installed it (once) and it seems the registry wants a different CAB file here \\Windows\\AppMgr\\Install\\Dell Foldable Keyboard(US) V2.07.CAB

I had some time at home so I tried the install, but keep in mind I don't have the keyboard to test with...
  • R67221.EXE seemed to install flawlessly to the device.

  • I checked the device for the files you are looking for and, like you, were not able to find them.

  • I tried also to install by copying the cab file from my PC and had the same results.

  • (I'm sure you have but,) Have you done a soft-reset as requested by the installer?

  • And have you run Foldable Keyboard.exe which seems to configure some keyboard options and also has a checkbox to Enable Keyboard?
