Well it finally happened to me....

I got up this morning and went to turn on my ax and nothing happened. After the first wave of panic settled I thought I should have put that piece of card on top of the back up battery. Then I remove the main battery and reinstall it and suddenly the system is running again but all my data is gone. Now the second wave of panic hits and I'm feeling chest pain. LOL Realizing I have a backup on my sd card I restore my most recent data from 8/24/07 but now I'm pissed because all my recorded mileage is gone. After the restore I sync and low and behold my mileage is all there and I only have to enter a few receipts to get right back where I was. Dodged a bullit this time. LOL

Scary isn't it, someone said to me the other day " what would happen if you lost that[my axim] everything that you have to do is on there." and I rely on it but it's all backed up to PC, well two actually. Then the next morning I'm on the way to work and the weathers warmed up a bit and I have the ax in a chest pocket, I lean down to take the dog's lead off[I take my dog to work with me] and I here this sound. metal rattling down the road. My ax is in front of me bouncing on bluestone cobbles. My mind goes haywire, I pick it up, hit the power button, it turns on normally. The case is scratched a bit, but the shock and the relief were priceless.

Backup...NOW!

Man, reading your post made me want to backup immediately. Also, it's a good thing that I keep almost all of my data on my SD card...

We rely on technology for so much.
I love my X5. I take it everywhere, except in the shower (its afraid of the water ask my wife's phone). Anyway, my main battery went dead before I had a chance to charge it and of course the issue, that most everyone has, with the backup battery, had to happen. I lost all of my data. After I changed out the battery with my backup main. I turned on the X5 and attempted to restore my data from the backup on the SD card. X5 said, "Unable to read backup file" Oh boy, was I going to have a coronary or what. Good thing I was able to get all my data back from my PC. Even that was a little trouble. Now, I make sure my main is charged and I check it constantly.

I have backups of the memory cards on my PC, too. They are big because I don't always weed out the things I already have on my PC, like music and movies; I just went through them to get them moved to CDs or DVDs and I had tons of duplicated things.
So I weeded them down.

I also have the backups form my Axim, but just from the SW Dell sends.
I have not yet needed to restore from a backup; or have prefered to restore the few times I done it, from a Hard Reset and fresh install of everything.
Actually doesn't talk too long to get my minimum set running, and then just install everything else as it is needed. This also helps with getting rid of infrequently used apps.

My worst mishap was when I had my Axim at work, and it did not come on. I got home, already thinking of what I was going to get to replace my X5 with, and put it on the cradle charge at home and it was fine. I guess it doesn't turn the screen on if the battery gets too low, or maybe if it was on the backup battery.

I have a tell of woe similar to yours. All of my data was lost because the battery died. My laptop(with backup) got a virus about the same time.

I have 2 questions.

I now have a SD card.
1.) How do I backup my contacts to the card?

New computer has Vista.
2.)Is there an Activesyne for Vista?

I know feeling of panic you described.

My backup problem has to do with my X3, but maybe someone here has a solution. My Axim X3 is dying a quick death. The connection prongs have broken off. I cannot sync, and I have not been able to recharge the battery. I have done a data backup from my X3 to my SD card. I am now trying to get that info onto my computer. My friend gave me an X5 he is no longer using, but the X5 does not recognize the X3 Backup file. Dell suggested installing the X5 PPC 2003 upgrade. Where can I find that, or is there another solution someone can think of?
