Vista wont sync with X5 (WM2003)

Help, my old X5 (WM2003) wont sync with Vista (Ultimate)

When I connect the X5 to Vista via the USB sync cable the Activesync screen displays a connection message on the X5 and the double arrow symbol indicates a connection. But on my PC an "Autoplay" messages appears and asks what I want (sync with Windows Media Player, Import pictures etc).

If I manuall open the Sync Center (from Windows Control Panel) there is no sign of the Axim X5. The only things I can add is "Offline Files" and Sql Server 2005.

Any help is appreciated.

Don't know if this will work for you but it did for me:

Once you have X5 connected and Vista at least sees it, then go to system device manager and find it there. Click on the update drivers and let it search online.

mine works fine in vista once i updated the drivers. vista actually did it for me

You need to download Windows Mobile Device Center, which is the replacement for ActiveSync. AS doesn't run under Vista.

Go to windowsmobile.com, and scroll down. At the bottom of the page, slightly to the left of center, there's a link.

Hi there everybody!
I just bought a new ACER 5720G laptop with windows vista home premium which has IR receiver built in. I used to sync with my older laptop (win xp) directly through the built-in IR receiver. I should say also that on windows xp, as soon as I faced the x5 with the laptop, the infrared would detect the dell axim x5 and said that there was a device nearby. Then, I would open ActiveSynch on my X5 and selected connect through IR on the tools menu. It worked like a charm!!!
The problem now is with windows vista I cant even get the system to identify the x5 as a nearby device. I mean, the system doesnt show the IR icon it used display on the icon notification area, where it would say it found a device nearby.
I have already installed the windows mobile device center & I have also checked on the device manager that the CIR (consumer infrared) device is enabled, but I cant manage to make my axim x5 synch through the IR port.
I must say that i have PPC2003 installed on my dell axim x5, rom version A01 (07190300SP) in spanish (im from spain).
Any ideas???
