Not connected problem

New on the block with a used X5 2003...using the cradle I can't get my PC to establish a connection. Runnning XP SP2. I know the USB port is working (plugged other items in it and fine). Any help appreciated. By the way I downloaded Activesync from the Dell site, but I also have the disk that came with the Axim. Don't have the key to load Outlook.

Just need a lot of help I guess.... Thanks in advance, at my age this is like going to the moon......

This must be one of the hardest issues with the system since I have found and been working on various methods proposed by Activesync and the Dell site. I will call a tech at Dell and see how this works out. But I would apreciate any help I can get. I do have a 101 question: If Outlook 2002 is not loaded can I still communicate. I don't actually need to sync I just need to able to cummunicate with my AXIM to load stuff. So if there is way I can load a program using an SD or CF card I would appreciate the help.

I'll be back with the results.......

As long as you have a valid connection even if the sync fails you can stil click on explore within the sync popup and then copy stuff to your X5, run programs to install them on the x5 and so forth.

Hello AC7, welcome to Aximsite

Some things to try/think about:
  • Are you getting any error messages when you try to connect?
  • Activesync plays a couple of .wav files when connecting and syncing - do you hear them when you cradle the device?
  • Have you made sure that your firewall recognises Activesync and allows bi-directional communication?
  • Does your PC/laptop have plenty of memory available?
  • Have you set up the Regional Settings on the Axim correctly?
  • Check the Axim and cradle for damaged connection blocks

A problem I vaguely remember as similar to yours from the early X5 days was caused by connecting the X5 to the PC before installing ActiveSync. The solution was to disconnect, then open the system settings on the PC and remove any 'mobile devices' that are listed. Then you can reconnect the Axim and the connection should work.

If it still doesn't, you can remove the device again and reinstall ActiveSync (possibly completely removing it first).

If it still doesn't work after this and the advice by other members above, I would suspect a hardware problem with the cradle or the connection port on the Axim.
