Updating O/S problems

Does anyone know how to update the O/S on an Axim X5?
I was told to perform a ROM dump before running the update, but I do not know how to get a full ROM / RAM dump from the X5. I have ActiveSync but I know that it can only back-up the user files etc not a full core ROM dump (img file).

Can anyone help?

Sorry if this post is causing confusion.
I know how to perform the update.
It is that the update files tell me to perform a ROM image dump before starting, in case of power failure or other unforseen problems that could screw up the installtion process.
It is just this ROM dumping that I have the problem with. How do I get an img file of my current ROM/RAM that I can use if there are any upgrade problem to restore my X5 to it's original settings?
