Noob here, I just bought an X5, I love the little thing. But I need it to connect to the internet, primarily for work email, I can figure out how to set it up once connected, I am a nerd, and I work in IT. So my question is, I want to buy a wireless CF or SD card, which one works with X5? Which one is better to use? There are so many manufactures that make these things I thought I would ask people who are actually using them, Which one should I buy? just post some links people...
Its got PPC 02 on it, but I bought the upgrade to 2003 CD off Ebay, should be here in mail anyday.
The sd on the X5 is for memory cards only, so you are limited to a CF card for WiFi. Check the WiFi FAQ and WiFi Guide linked from my signature for most of the answers you are looking for (including a list of WiFi CFs that have been used with the X5).

Thanx Ike for your quick re: I'm glad I asked the group, I was about a click away from buying an SDIO card that fit into the slot witout sticking out of the side a half an inch. Now I know! I'll check out your guide.
The list of CF cards for the X5 in the FAQ is a bit dated with many of the cards being EOL. They almost certainly can be found but it may take a bit of searching. Most retailers that carry CF WiFi will be more likely to have 802.11g cards now. Be careful about confirming compatibility for these. Very few (maybe none) of these work with PPC02. I think there will be less of an issue once you've upgraded to WM03 but read the fine print on a card before clicking a Buy button.

I just got done upgrading to 03. I know that's touchy subject on here, so I will just say that now I'm running PPC03 not 02. 03 has much more compatibility, I would suggest anybody buying these X5's off of ebay for cheap get an upgrade. I'm gonna go check out the FAQ. Thanx for your help.
It's a copyright violation. We should not talk about how we get these upgrades. So I wont, I prolly wouldn't even help somebody with the update process, cuz if your gonna break the law, your on your own... Just my opinion, I could be wrong...
Hey Ike, I got a wireless CF card off Ebay, coming in the mail next week. It's a cheap off brand, but if it works I'll let you know so you can add it to the list of compatible cards.
If the card doesn't have drivers for WM03SE (or if you have problems getting it to work with the provided ones), you should try the Intersil Reference drivers (most easily installed with Perfect Prism utility - there is a link in the WiFi FAQ).

I got one with a CD and it says it's compatible with WM03 and 02 it actaully says its for the Axim X5 in the details... I figure if it doesn't work I throw it right back on Ebay and get what I can for it.
That FAQ you've got there sure does have a lot of info in it, The guide as well. I've already been checking my mail on the X5, the only problem is I gotta have it sitting in the cradle...
Hey Ike, that card from ebay is by a company called Prism. I really had to mess w the driver, but it does work, I'm writing this from my x5 stealing wifi @ the park... This is badass!! Traveling will be so much easier now!
Prism is the company that makes many of the chips for wireless cards. I didn't know they made the complete cards but I'm glad you got it working.
