Tried all 6 mentioned audio file formats in Windows Media Player 11 with one piece of music to see which ones my X5 will accept. It accepts the above 3.
I read a lot about audio quality and discovered that of the 3 formats mentioned there is not one really outstanding, although WMA Lossless seems to be the favorite.
Can anyone tell me why it uses the least number of bytes, although it has the best quality sound?
MP3 - 6,400 KB
WMA - 3,895 KB
WMA Lossles - 3,231 KB
I'm no expert in this, but I do know that the mp3 format is a rather "wasteful" format compared to WMA and other formats like OGG. It makes sense that WMA Lossless creates larger file sizes compared to WMA since some "non-essential" data is removed in its lossy format(i.e., WMA).
Even though wma is smaller, i still like to use mp3. Its a lot more universal format, and it works with MP3Gain, a software that balances the volume on mp3s. Very useful for making CDS and mp3 players and even pdas. This software balances the volume level so u dont have to adjust volume every song.

I use mp3... I can listen to them on my phone, pda, palm, dvd player, wife's phone, dvd player, Cd player, my linux box, her 2 mp3 players, work pc and just about any lump of digital goodness I can find.
The extra space it may take up is worth it in terms of portability

I agree with Andy... MP3's are just so universal I find myself using them more. I don't even use iTunes anymore, you can buy MP3's from Amazon for 89 cents each, drm free... But I also agree w dutchie though, if you turn up your music loud, WMA does sound better. I've some pretty good MP3's though. It reall matters on the sampling rate, 64k 128k or 256k... Isn't Hi-Def audio 512k sampling rate?
