I cant upgrade my X5 ROM
I have been trying to upgrade my axim x5 for some time now, i bought it a while back and decided its time to be updated. So I downloaded the update of ebay toupdate is to Rom Version A05 as it is currently A00 and it would not let me, i then tried to update it to A01 with the updates on the dell site, again this failed!
I just get the warning Copy incomplete! The system update procedure CANNOT Proceed. Can anyone help?

I think those messages occur when you are trying to use a different language from the original.
I think the only way to get around this is with the boot loader method using correctly formated images of the ROM files on an sd card. It's a more complex process (preparing the files for the sd card if you cannot find them) with a real possibility of bricking the PPC. [edit: seeing KimChee's post below reminds me you use a CF card, not an sd for the bootloader on the X5.]

No such luck--I've looked quite a bit. If I could figure it out, I'd have a 2003se rom done in short time--I'm currently held up by trying to reverse engineer Dell's flash utility that comes with the 2003 upgrade cd.

I'm not sure what update you have, but you can't update from 2002 to 2003 A05 with just the 2003 update if you have the one I think you do, I think the update was meant for people with A04 to update to A05, however you can bypass this with the bootloader method.
Basically you need a cf card formatted and the R64365, read the whole thread it will help you out... This is the link you are looking for Problem with upgrading PPC2002 -> 2003 - Axim Users Dot Com I've done this successfully, but you want to be careful as you can brick your X5, if it doesn't go right..fortunately none of my flashing adventures have ended up badly so far..knock on wood..

Im 99% sure you have to use a cf card, and it has to be formatted to fat 32..hmm, Are you getting the white update screen? Are you only putting the bootloader and image file on the card and not the folder? Only other thing I can think of is one image is for the 300 the other is for the 400 check thread L I believe is 300 H is 400...are you renaming .img to .ris?
