IR hardware modification

Hey there...

Looking at using my X5 for a universal remote to control my home theater system, but the IR range on it absolutely sucks (and that's being generous). Anybody out there know of a hardware mod to put a stronger IR transmitter in? I'd tinker around and try to figure it out myself, but would rather see if somebody has already done it - easier to know what parts and pieces to get that are truly compatible, and not accidentally blow up my Axim :)

My only other option is something like the Ultramote CF IR card, but I've got the CF slot in use at the moment and want to avoid that if at all possible.
