Need help with a Linksys 802.11b 2.4 GHz wireless card, too. :-)

Me Again (different problem, different post),

My X5 also came with this Linksys WCF12, 802.11b, 2.4 GHz wireless card.

After updating the OS to PPC 2003 and hard resetting the Axim, I went to the Linksys site, and downloaded the setup files.

When I run setup, it never does an install to the Axim. It does some host (PC) installation, but never even asks me for the install directory on the Axim.

I tried installing the driver from the original CD, which I think is for PPC 2002. It installs properly, but when I click the icon for the configuration utility, the screen flashes and doesn't come up. (More likely, it is coming up, having a problem right away, and closing down immediately.)

Has anyone had experience with this card and PPC 2003? I'd love to get this (and the Hawking card) working.

Thanks, Max

download the correct driver at

Linksys.com - Support/Technical Support/Choose a Product/Network Adapters/Wireless Adapters/WCF12/Downloads

unzip to a temporary location on your computer thats easy to find, and read the release notes. take out the adapter if its plugged into the device. soft reset the device and after reading the release notes, run setup.exe and it should install the driver. soft reset again, wait for the today screen to display completely and then plug in the adapter. test by running the installed utility for device functionality and check for any activity from the status lights on the device as well

jd, you are da man!

I've done that install before, but been thrown by the lack of any indication from ActiveSync that any communication with the PDA was taking place. Just for fun, I followed your procedure, for once not caring that the install didn't seem to do anything on the Axim itself. After the install, I soft reset, and plugged the card in. Darned if it didn't come right up and find a network.

I'm new to PDAs, but have worked with computer systems in some depth for over 20 years. You'd think by now I'd have learned not to expect consistency in software behaviors across all vendors supporting a platform.

Thank you for the help. This is very cool.

Regards,
Max
