X5 wireless connection troubles

Before I begin let me tell you that I have read many times over the threads similar to my problem and the one that talks directly about my problem. I am using an Axim X5 advanced. I got my linksys wireless network CF card. I followed the advice from this thread

http://www.aximsite.com/boards/windo...3-success.html

And I can see my wireless connection, encrypted with my password listed. It says available beside it, I hold my pen on it and select connect and it says connecting and then just says available. It will not connect. I have tried with the work connection and the internet connection.

Obviously once the axim is usb connected to my PC it can go online via my PC, buI need it to go online when it's mobile, that's the point. I can't get it connected at home even after using my encryption password and even though I can see the familiar name of my wireless connection listed and available. The green light flashes on the network card etc. But it just won't connect to the internet when it's mobile?

Please, please help!

I'm assuming you have WM03 on your X5 so I suggest the following:

1) Make sure your router is operating in B mode;

2) try disabling the security settings and see if you can connect;

3) with the card inserted, go into the list of networks on your Axim (Start, Settings, Connections (tab), Connections, Advanced (tab), Network Card), hold the stylus on your network and select Remove Settings from the popup (you may need to unplug your router before it will actually remove the settings). Do a soft reset and when the Axim finds the network, chose 'Work' and enter the WEP key in hexdecimal format (10 or 26 characters, exactly).

4) Look at the Check these first part of the Troubleshooting section of the WiFi Guide for more possibilities.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try them all. I have got some tech support from Linksys and they have concluded that the WCF11 Card isn't compatible with pocket windows 2003 SE? Is this correct?

I am using an AXIM X5 advanced and I do think it is Windows 2003 SE?

Linksys quit supporting the card before WM03 was released but the thread you linked to above shows that it can work.

Well I do have the wireless connection showing as available. The only problem is that I cannot get it to connect when it's mobile. Could this be merely down to encryption? If I thought it would work in a wifi free wireless environment such as a hotel or whatever then I'd be happy enough. I basically need it to contact home cheaply while working abroad? Do you think it's merely encryprion? One way or another I intend on finding out tomorrow!!

Is your WiFi security WEP or WPA? If it is WPA, I am going to say that my vague recollection is that WM 2003 did not support WPA (though I could be wrong about that . . .) If it is an X5, it should be WM2003, not WM 2003 SE, as I do not think Dell ever released an SE ROM for the X5.

Anyway, try WEP rather than WPA (and then know that WEP is more secure than no encryption, but pretty crackable if somebody really wants to crack it.)

Ok, thanks for all the help. I have tried my PDA in my brothers home. He has a wireless connection. And it connected immediately with no problems. SO I'm good to go!!!
