Vista Sync WM2003 problem

Hi, I cannot sync with vista. I've read evey thread I can find but with no solution to my Sync problem.

I've a vostro 1500, vista ultimate and am trying to sync my trusty old X5with it.

I have downloaded windows mobile centre 6.1 successfully but when I plug in the X5 it appears to connect via USB with 'arrows' showing all ok, but immediately a warning pops up in vista 'Changes to synchronization settings with Server activesync could not be made at this time'. Meanwhile WMDC, shows 'Device connected' in the settings window and 'Pocket PC' and 'Not Connected' in the main green window. In Sync Centre I've tried 'Set Up New sync...' with no result. Only 'Off line files' shown. In Device Manager the X5 is show and the Driver is latest. Details of my X5 are here - X5 300MHz
