Yep, worked fine.. It might be just that PC. What if you try and download another installer... Like the Adobe Reader for PC?

It's nothing to do with AS if you can't even open the PC portion of the PPC version and cannot open even the PC version

rebooting must have been the answer. it installed perfectly after doing that. whew! thought i'd have to put my foot through this monitor. thanks for the help!!!!!!
