Help .....
my Axim backup battery died. I have put the PDA on the holder and when it awoke it went through a system reset. Active Sync wants to start a new partnership. I just want my data back.
I did a backup from ActiveSync (many times) but when I do the Restore, it says the files are not found. SO where did they go. I am at a loss, I have lost so much and this is so frustrating. I don't get it at all. The data should be available.
Can anyone help me restore? I would love any advice.

I appreciate the link and the restore guide, but I tried those exact steps and it cannot find the backup up files. Does anyone know the path and folder they are stored in? Are these hidden folders? Tell me that they are not stored on the Axim themselves?
If I can find them I could do the restore, but I cannot find them. I did a search of *.stg files and the computer found none, so I am really confused.
I have potentially lost so much it is killing me. I had trouble sleeping it drove me nuts. I even prayed to the computer angels to bring me a solution while sleeping, no such luck this morning.
If memory serves, your backup files should be in a location something like:
C:\Documents and Settings\Local Username\Application Data\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Profiles\Original Pocket PC Profile name\backup.stg
Obviously, the bold/italic text must be modified for your personal pc.
Just checked and this is where ActiveSync stores the backup file. You'll only have one there - every time you backup the file is refreshed. And, when I searched for .stg, my computer did not find anything either, but when I went to the place where the backup file is stored, the file was there.
Make sure you name the pocket pc the same name as your Original Pocket PC profile name.
Tap Start > Settings > System tab > About icon > Device ID tab > input the name in the "Device name" box.

The Following User Says Thank You to Julie For This Useful Post:
After a couple restores that did not work I was able to restore from a backkup from about a year ago.:) I had three full backups each a year older. The most recent did not work, so I renamed the file and went to the oldest. It did not work so I renamed it and went to the middle backup and it worked!!!
So now I have one question, I have a recent incremental backup. If I rename that and do a restore can I hope it will only update with the changes? Do I dare try or just be thankful I got a restore to happen and not push my luck?
Again, thanks so much for the help.
The folder and files are hidden, hence my trouble in finding them. Now I will always know and hope I never need them again.

I don't know the answer; however, you can backup to a separate device (for instance, an SD card using Spb Backup or similar) to protect your current set up and try! If the incremental restore doesn't work and corrupts your data, you will still have a reliable backup to recover.
Remember, backup first.
Moreover, you may want to think about an alternative backup method: third-party applications give you the ability to preserve your data and settings whilst you're on the move and, more importantly, to restore your machine while you're away from your pc. :approve:
The X5 also has a builtin in backup utility from dell that will allow you to backup to a SD or CF card and restore from those without being connected to a pc. I would suggest using this (buitl into the rom and free) also as if you are on the road this could come in handy.
Its under programs, called Data Backup
It allows you to back up all data or just pin and to tell it where to put it. It also restores as well.
