Good free text editor?

So, it seems I have a problem.

I have a bunch of files I want to edit. Some are Word documents, but most are HTML.

Using PocketNotepad or Total Commander's editor is not an option, as the files are too big.

Using PocketWord is also not an option. For some unknown reason, if I try to edit anything over a certain size in it, it only loads part of the document and discards the rest of the data.

Is there any good free programs like PocketWord that don't have this size restriction? Spell-check would be a nice plus, but is not required.
