Wow! That is a great deal. I just got an email from Dell tech support (re: an ongoing problem I am having with a 256mg CF). They said the Axim does not support more than a 128mg card and that is why I am having the problems I am :(

Whoa, that is ghetto! Doesn't support anything above 128??? I think we should get some verification on this -- this is just as bad as Sony's MS 128meg cap!

Cheryl, just curious -- is ur CF sandisk?

Cheers.

That is crazy!! No more than 128MB?! Cheryl, I'd call them up and speak to someone personally... that can't be right (although I don't have the book here with me to check it).

That is total BS...I am using a sandisk 512mb card, a lexar 512mb, a promaster 512mb and a promaster 256mb.

All work fine for movies music games etc....

Tell tech support to pull their head outta their butts. The axim doesn't support card size the OS does and pocket pc 2002 does support CF cards of any size (at least I have heard no different) People use 1gig microdrives with these.

I have in my Dell a 256 CF and a 256 SD card. Both work just fine. The Dell Tech was mistaken (surprise, surprise!). Dell only SELLS 128 Meg cards, so that'll be all they claim to "support." That price for 512 is really attractive. Wonder if I can convice The Treasurer Of My House to let me spend that much?

Cheryl, what's the problem? Maybe we can solve it for you without the "help" of Dell! :P

Everytime I turn on my Axim it asks if I want to format my CF card so the system can use it.

Have you tried letting it format the CF card? If you have a card reader you can copy the data to your PC and let the Ax do it's thing. If you don't have the reader, you can use Activesync>Explore and do the same thing. Then, once it's safe, let the Ax format the card and see if that satisfies it.

Already tried that. It hasn't helped. But thanks for the suggestion. I have also used Storage Tools to scan the CF card. There are no errors.

That is normal for a company to "support" only what they want to support. In the early days of modem/bbs'ing and all, Bell would only support 2400 baud, even though there was 9600 modems on the streets. i know, because i had one, and it worked fine.

all that means is when you call to say you have a problem with your 9600 baud modem, they will tell you they don't support it, and you are on your own.

So dell is just syaing they don't wanna hear about any problems with cards above 128mb. I also have had a 340mb iibm micro drive in my cf, and was able to play movies, show pics, copy and delete files with nary a problem.

Is the CF card usable in other devices? (Camera, reader, etc) One person bought a CF card, had problems, took it back to Office Depot (where he had bought it) and tried it in another system, found it was bad and got a replacement. If you bought it locally, it might be worth a try to take the Ax and card there, show them the problem, try another card, or try the card in another machine.

I presume you've done the hard reset that Dell loves to recommend.
