Question Internet connection through cradle?

Hello all,

Still new to the AXIM. Is it possible to connect through my cradle to get on the Internet (Cable) via my desktop? I have anti-virus software that I need to update, however it says "Please make sure you have a valid connection to the internet".

Thinking that I do (on my desktop) I press update and it says that it could not connect to the server.

So, I checked the Dell site and it did not help.

Figure I should go to the experts, so I came here.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Craig

If your Axim is connected to a PC that is connected to the Internet, you should be able to access the Internet from your Axim as well.

I don't see the point... Why use internet with ax Connected to your computer, when you can just use your pc?

because you can! and there are sites specifically in pocket format. this site has a mobile version. ;)

but to answer the original question - yes you can as long as your computer is on-line. i use a usb cradle and assume serial cable will do the same. have to ask someone smarter than me for that one.

hope this helps!

and welcome to aximsite!:yeah:

canhover,

It's been a while since I've done this, but I believe you need to do the following: On your PC, open ActiveSync, select Options, Rules (tab) and change the settings for "To use pass through..." to the opposite it's currently set for.

It will probably be set for "work" this allows pass-through to connect to LANs.
(Just found out this myself from "How to do Everything with Your Pocket PC" third edition Mcgraw hill pub.)

Mad

As Hnelson said, because you can!

However, looking at the site and looking at everything else, I discover this on the Active Sync help page:

Note The ability to use ActiveSync to pass through this computer is only supported on Windows Powered Pocket PC 2002 and Windows Powered Smartphone 2002.

Hmmm, figures I have 2003. So, after more research, I see that this "will be coming soon".

Oh well, maybe next month.

Thanks to all again,
Craig

Exclamation That is not correct...

I have upgraded and can hook to the internet through Activesync and my cradle whenever I want.

Mainly use it with WIFI however, when I'm away from my computer. But it does work with Mobile 2003!

Have to change some settings in teh active sync, but am at school, and sorry don't remember a the moment, but it will work on WM 2003. When I get home this evening will post what the settings needs to be... Hope that will help... :D

Big Smile Ok, now I will change my post

All,

Thanks for all the tech tips. Here is the latest.

Yes, I can connect through explorer, works well.

I cannot update however my McAfee. When I tell it to update, it says that it could not find the server.

Any ideas?

Sorry for all the troubles, appreciate all the positive responses.

Regards,
Craig

Resolution

OK,

Talked to McAfee. Apparently my Norton firewall blocks McAfee (go figure). So when I try to get it from the PDA thru the tabletop, it gets blocked.

But, got walked thru the fix.

Again Thanks,
Craig
