RhinoSkin Problem....question
I just got my Titanium RhinoSkin Case today, and am wondering if anyone else who has this case has any of the same issues with theirs.
#1. The door does not close properly because I think my door is slightly bent, and the hinge catches. When I dont have my Axim in the rhinoskin, and I just let the door rest closed without clicking it down, it hovers about 1cm above the left side because it is caught near the hinge on the right side. I have a picture of this that I took, so if you would like to see my problem to help better understand if your case does the same, then please e-mail me at gardnjam@onid.orst.edu and I will send it to you.
#2. The door also appears to sag downward in the middle as if it is bend inward instead of outward to give screen clearance. I would think that the door would have a nice gradual outward/upward curve to it to ensure clearance from the screen, however mine sags inward towards the screen and I am positive that when I shut the door with the Axim in the skin, that the right side of the door pushed on the screen. This causes my Axim to come out of battery dimmed mode because it is thinking I am touching the screen, definately a problem. If you want to see a picture of the door to better compare it with yours, send an e-mail to gardnjam@onid.orst.edu and I will send you the picture.
I have called Directcase, however they are gone for the weekend, so I want to see if anyone elses cases are like mine, or if they just sent me a defective one.

just got my titanium today, you should get a rma first thing 10/13/03. it sounds like the truck ran over your box or something. just kidding, what you described is not at all what I have in my hand. hope you get this fixed, I know what a pain it is to wait all this time and have it come screwed up.

Does your case even come close to touching the screen when closed? Ya know the SD card holders, thats what is touching my screen. And I did notice that the plastic the Belt Clip came in was taped closed. And the plastic that the case comes in was not closed all the way when I opened the box, I thought something looked not right, and as we see, there is something up.
It kinda looks like they sent me a returned rhinocase or something. Like someone sent one back after they bent it up, claiming they just didnt like it, and DirectCase.com never checked to see if an Axim still fit into it properly before sending it out to me as if it was new.... What crappy business.
Thank you for your reply, and I hope to hear from others about if their case is like mine described.

I just got my case the other day as well. Over all i am very pleased with the titanium case, my only complant is that i thought it would fit inside the grinder gear basecamp model, so i could just ditch my wallet all together. but the hinge on the titanium case just sticks out a bit to far, enough to not let it slide in. it does add a bit of weight to it as well, but not enough to complain about in my book. if weight was a concern i would of bought a palm pilot. as far as i can tell it doesn't look like the SD card holder slots are close enough to scratch the screen, but i also use the writesheild screen protectors so i'm not worried about it. I would highly recomend this case to all.

I use a writeshield as well, so I am not really worried about the screen being scratched, but more like Cracked if something pushes against the door while its in my bag or something. It is literally sitting on the screen, and I know this because when my axim screen dimms into batttery saver mode (set to come back on when I tap the screen with the stylus), it comes out of dimmed mode when I shut the door because the screen feels the SD card holder thing in the door pushing down on it.
Can anyone who believes they dont have their door touching their screen please reply with your e-mail address so I can send you a picture I took of mine, so that you can verify whether your door has the same sagging curve to it that is causing my problem. I think that a visual of my door would help determine whether yours looks like mine or not for sure. Thanks

My complaint is the paint seems very soft. I already have deep scratches and the paint is pealing off

Here are the two pictures, one in this post and one in the next, of my case showing the problems stated above.
1. Hinge doesnt line up, and as you can see in the picture, when resting closed, it doesnt close all the way cause something is bent or not lining up properly.
2. The door curves downward, into the screen, and is sagging so much that when I close the door, the SD card holders on the inside of the door press on the screen. The top and bottom parts of the door fit snuggly to the top and bottom of the Axim, so you can imagine where the center of the door must line up considering is sits much lower than the top and bottom ends of the door.

EOD, I thank you for the confirmation that I did get screwed. This makes me much more confident when I get called on Monday from Direct Case.
I think that DirectCase.com sent me a returned RhinoCase. Based on the tape that was holding the ripped plastic around the belt click inside the box, as well as the fact that the new shippment of cases wasnt supposed to arrive until the 13th they told me (backordered), I think someone returned theirs after messing it up or for whatever reason, and they just turned around and sent it to me early.
Where is the quality control?
Thanks again Punk

gardnjam that is what my aluminum case looked like when I sent it back 4 months ago. I sent it back, on my buck, and got a piel frama. When I saw they were putting togeather a Titanium model I decided to sell the piel frama and purchase the Titanium...Sept 14th. When I received my case on friday, while not near as bad as yours, there where problems. There are spots all over the cover, looks like water sat on the cover for a while and stained it. The ax seems to slide around side to side when the lid is open as well. Hell, for 80 bucks I would expect more from a company. This is TWICE now they have sent me a bad product. I will never, ever buy from Saunders again. They produce terrible products.
Does your beltclip slide up and down the post? It seems that is the reason for the post unscrewing. I cant figure out why it took 3 weeks to retool the post when all they did was ad a plastic washer...that FALLS OFF. Terrible product.

I think that I will ask for a new case, and hopefully some method for them to send means of paid postage for the return. I like the case, and if I get what I am expecting to get when the new one arrives, it will be worth it. However, if the new one they send me is not perfect, I will get a full refund, and definately look at other products. Are there any other metal cases you would recommend or are considering changing to yourself?
For $99.00 retail (1/3 the freaking cost of the PDA) this damb thing should be emaculate. This is unbelievable that Saunders would sell such a sh*&! product with their name on it. I have lost much respect for them, unless of course I get a new one and it is sent to me with overnight shipping and it is perfect.
Lets hear everyone who has had problems with this case! Don't let them sell something with hundreds of percents markup that isnt even in mint condition when you buy it. Their product is a joke.
