Worried Here's a few ideas

Ok I take it that you're getting some kind of error from activesync, would be nice if you could give us the exact text of what it says.

I take it that you've had problems previously with a different axim, did it ever work right? If it worked right before, the problem is probably not in your desktop but in the activesync software.

Activesync, if you haven't noticed, is a big pain in the butt for a lot of folks, not just you. When I have a problem with it, and that's probably once every several months I have to uninstall it completely, wipe out the directory, reboot, and reinstall it, reboot again, before it will work again.

If activesync has never worked at all on your desktop it could be to do with your usb ports. Do other devices work on the usb port you are plugging into? Just to test, plug straight into the back of the computer, not into a Hub (self-powered or not). If you're already plugged straight into the desktop then try a selfpowered hub if you have one or can borrow one. There have been threads in here about problems with the usb ports on some systems. I've never had a problem with the ones on my gigabyte board or my self powered usb 2 hub. If the usb ports built into your board won't work then you might want to borrow a good quality usb card from somebody, pop that in the machine and see if that cures your problem.

The last suggestion I've got has to do with the axim being detected. This is the procedure I use for getting the Ax to connect.
1. When doing the activesync uninstall and reinstall keep the axim out of the cradle.
2. After a reboot, start up activesync and be sure you make the selections about just this computer and don't set anything up as guest (sorry I don't have the stuff in front of me right now).
3. When activesync starts hunting for the handheld, then and only then, put it in the cradle. Windows will sniff around for the drivers and install them. If activesync times out while windows is putting the drivers in hit the back button and this time it should find it. This procedure has always worked perfectly for me.

If after all of this you still can't sync then we are back to your desktop/laptop again. If you have a registry cleaner run it. Shut down any firewalls or programs running in the background to see if they might be interfering with activesync. Try the above hints again about the usb ports. Hopefully something in here will cure your problem. You'll get more help if you post more information about your computer/s and the error messages you're getting.
