Well I took the plung last night. I purchased the Linksys Wirless router/access point and the Ambicom CF card. The router was a piece of cake to get set up after I put the plugs in the correct ports. Its always user error, or at least with me it is. :)
Then I installed the drivers first for the Ambicom CF card, plugged it into the CF slot and bang! It was working just like that. I can connect anywhere in the house and out in the garage. I haven't downloaded the app to see the signal strength yet, but I am going to test that this evening.
The CF card is pretty small I guess, since I don't have anything to compare it to. The biggest thing I noticed is what a power drain! It might be normal, but I used it for a couple of hours last night and then turned it off to watch some tv. Then again for about an hour while I was in bed just playing around with it. By the time I was done my Dell was at 27%! It started out at 100%, for my needs it will do just fine, but I can see that if I were going to do any serious wireless usage I would want either the bigger battery from Dell or at the very least an extra one.
Maybe if I get a chance later tonight I will post some pics of the CF card so you can see its size in action. :)

I use the Linksys WCF12 with a Linksys Wireless Router, I use it now more than I use the USB cable that came with the Axim. I can sync anywhere in the house, or the neighbors house for that matter. I have never fallen below 40% on the battery. I also use it for checking TV listings while I am in bed at night, but I have the power cable in my bedroom rather then attached to my synch cradle. I am not sure what I ever did without my Axim.

Eric,
Where did you purchase your Lynksys and cf card, on the internet? I'm in the market and I don't know what a good price for this would be or where to purchase it. Thanks for any info you can share! :D

I purchased my Linksys Wireless Router/Access point at Best Buy for $79.99. While there I purchased the CF card for $79.99 also. I am sure that I could have gotten it cheaper if I were more patient and looked around, but I decided yesterday I was going to do it and I had the time last night to spare. Since its tax season and I work in public accounting, spare time is hard to come by right now so I took the plung even though I may have spent a few more dollars.

VanHlebar, Just a hint of advice. I have the same setup as you (Same Card and a linksys router). And what you need to do is go to the configuration utility. and to Configuration and make sure power managment is turned on. It Makes a HUGE Difference. After you turn that on it has hardly any power drain if you ask me.

code_joe:
Is it possible to leave the card in the Axim but disable it so that it isn't drawing any power at all (obviously there will be network connection when in this state? I envision wanting to leave my WiFi card in the Ax all the time but would only want to hit the network intermittently.
Thanks,
J

I just saw this last night and turned it on. I couldn't tell you if I saw much of a difference or not since I didn't realize it until late in the evening. I am going to keep track of it this weekend and see what happens.
Thanks for the suggestion though :)
