GPS and my Axim

Well I am still trying to get my etrex to work well with my Axim. On occasion my axim will recieve NMEA data from my etrex, but it only happens every once in a while with no warning as to when it will happen. My guess is something wakes that sipex chip up in my serial cable that allows the data to flow without problems.

My question is does anyone know which pin on my serial cable needs voltage to wake up the sipex chip. I put power to pin 4 last night and it made my axim think it was syncing, so that's one I have ruled out. Does anyone know more about this. I appreciate any input or help. Thanks.
