It depends what sort of connection you have to your PC and the file explorer you use. If the connection is only USB, and you don't have a 3rd-party file explorer, then the way you do it is this:

1) Put the CD in the CDROM drive
2) Connect the Axim to the PC via the cradle/USB
3) Get ActiveSync running on both machines and connect.
4) On the PC, start File Explorer, and navigate to the CDROM drive.
5) On the PC, use the "Explore" tool button to start up File Explorer looking at the Axim directory structure.
6) On the PC, copy files from the CDROM window to the Axim window.

Fin.

Thanks Regmar,

What would you recommend?

pretty much anything would be faster than activesync. my personal favorite is the simpletech bonzai USB mindrive which i keep on my keychain. the lexar trio also supports memory sticks and USB 2.0, but it's slightly bigger.

but almost any reader is at least 7-10 times faster than activesync, and USB 2.0 would blow it out of the water...

I'd have to agree with "Astounded". ActiveSync through USB is pretty slow, so any other copy method would be preferable. I sprung for the TrueMobile WiFi card and a $50 DLink 6-port wireless hub, so I run ActiveSync through my ethernet connection. This makes copying a lot faster than the USB. To find out how to do this, read the "Wireless FAQ" on this site. Copying a 512MB card-full of mp3's takes about 20 minutes via wireless ethernet.
