hi Mark
You're not a traitor, you're just continuing to move up the evolutionary scale of pocket computing that's all. You mentioned starting with the Newton and them moving to Palm and then to Palm powered products, does this make you a traitor to Newton? No it doesn't. Each step confirms how important the former technologies were and you just want to enjoy the benefits of the latest improvements.
I'm a former Palm user too. I thought I would never go to Pocket PC, after all Bill has enough of my money, but here I am a month older owner of the Axim. Do I feel I've turned my back on Palm, no I enjoyed using the Palm iii xe for the time I had it. It was my constant companion, I kept my records, my addresses and read books, now I've gone to something that is now very cool and very versatile. It's true, once you listen to your first mp3 on the devise you will not turn back.
As for advising people to go with Sony, you were correct up to that time. They're happy with the Sony's as you will be with the Axim.
Dell has made a wonderful product for us to enjoy.

I just ordered my Axim 2 days ago. Got 10% off, free shipping, and another $25 off for applying for the Dell card.
Before that, I was a Palm user - Handspring Visor Deluxe to be specific. I really used that thing a LOT until it was stolen last summer (along with my car stereo - that'll teach me to leave my PDA in the console). Had the money to replace the stereo (insurance) but not the PDA.
By the time I started considering replacing the Visor, OS5 was on the horizon, so I waited. Then PPC2K2 came out, and the Axim, and I was impressed - then I saw the price... OS5 - $500. Axim - $300. That mostly sold me.
Then I saw sites like this one and learned a lot I didn't know about the PPC - and many questions were answered.
then a friend of mine got one for his birthday (from his wife). Once I saw it, felt it and tried it out a little, all my concerns about weight, bulkiness, etc were GONE.
Coincidentally, that night, Axims went on sale - so I ordered one.. And now I wait wait wait ....
Ebooks, Monopoly, Age of Empires, MP3s, Mille Bornes, Street & Trips, Score Pad, all this with memory to spare! Just being able to cheaply have several hundred MB free on memory cards... and TWO slots at that!
What am I saying? I'm preaching to the choir here!

I love the Palm, but I wanted to be able to go beyond text entry. I ordered a top of the line Sony with everything but the camera, but Palm OS 5 did not offer anything new, so I returned it and received a full refund (thank you Sony, I will do business with you in the future) Thats why I am here, and from what I have been reading about the Capabilities of the PPC format, I can't wait to get my Axim (2 more weeks and counting)

I too was a long time PalmOS user. The two things that kept me from the PocketPC variety was price and battery life. Now that Dell has made up my mind... I ordered my Axim yesterday!
I too am dealing with mixed feelings (especially since my Palm didn't "die" on me, I just got my newest one in September and just bought three Palms in the last two weeks for members of my family).
However, the more I read about the Axim and PocketPC in general, the more I can't understand why I did not switch sooner.

I was also a long time palm user. I agree that the palm desk top was simple to use but after a short time outlook was just as easy to use and offers more features. Another plus is I dont need all the other third party software to interact with my windows software.
I had a handspring and used the spring board mod. What a pain in the A. to have to change from one mod to another just to listen to mp3's or use the gps etc. Plus the modules are big and Handspring doesnt even support the springboard moduals now.
The best thing I did was make the switch and Dell offers a deal that cant be beat.:)

I almost made the mistake of getting a palm pilot untill i was converted to the Axim side. I was shown how primitive Palms are and how outrageously priced they are when i was shown the capabilities of the Axim. You'll be in heaven when you get it! Enjoy!

Just so you know, I still use my m500 everyday.
Some programs just aren't available on the PPC, most importantly this one....

Cagey - I still use my Palm often as well.
I like PPC a lot. Just converting my palm contacts to Axim contacts is a lot of work. I have to go through all the contacts in outlook and make sure the phone numbers are lined up properly in outlook. ugh. heh. I'm just being lazy - probably would only take an hour.
I still use the palm for all my contacts really. It's just easier. The PPC is slowly taking it all over.
