Using Activesync on thin client with Citrix

Is it possible to install Activesync on a Citrix server and access it on a thin client? Is anyone doing this or had experience with it?

That's a good idea, I never tried putting activesync on a server.

Currently, we run Lotus Notes which is accessible directly through Citrix (as well as web). I have activesync installed on my PC and also have a prodcut called EasySync Pro on the PC and on the Axim. With that setup, it doesn't matter whether I am accessing the email server via Citrix or a local network connection, EasySync Pro synchronizes the Contacts, To-Do list, Calendar, Journal, and eMail from either connection through the PC.

But there are better ways to do this in my opinion. Most servers (including our Domino server) can be set up as POP3 and SMTP mail servers on the internet. This requires a conduit through your firewall (if you have one - make sure you NAT the server on the firewall to some unrelated address). That way all you need to do is get your Axim on the web and you can download your mail directly.

I use Citrix over the web all the time through the Axim (Bluetooth CF card - Bluetooth enabled cellphone - Data subscription through cellular carrier) to do all kinds of things from manage my network and servers to running applications directly from my Axim. It never occurred to me to try to do a sync through Citrix as Lotus Notes and EasySync Pro make it so easy without it.

But that's a good idea. I don't know what impact activesync will have on server security, but I'd like to hear from someone who has done this, too.

Thanks for the reply. The reason why i need to put it on Citrix is we are getting thin clients which don't have a hard drive and access our network etc via Citrix. So we need a way to sync the PDA. On the Citrix website they say it is possible but not very stable. So i'm interested to see if someone has tried it.

How are you getting it to work. We installed Activesync 3.7 and tried connecting the Axim with a usb and serial but it won't detect the PDA since the Axim and activesync seem to only work on a direct connection. We tried redirecting the com port but are unable to change the baud rate on the PDA and we can't redirect the usb connection. This is my bigest problem with thin-client since we have 30 AXIM and if you connect the device either on a WinTerm or a pc runing the ICA client it doen't detect the PDA. Any help in this would be great Thanks ed

I think you will run into issues with Activesync, since it will only support sycronization of only two PocketPCs. There is some software out there that could get around this, I think it is mightysync, magicsync or something like that. Beware though, one of them seems to cause some quirky issues that double all the files on your PPC and host PC - I think that one is Many Partners Sync.

RUBBISH. It's the Pocket PC that can only sync with two different desktop/notebook computers. ActiveSync will handle as many partnerships as you throw at it.
