Hi all this is my first post here. I've been following the forums since I found this great website about two weeks ago right after I ordered my Ax. Well, my little bundle of joy arrived this afternoon, boy was I excited right up until installing ActiveSync and trying to connect with my new toy. ActiveSync isn't recognizing the Ax at all-it says no device is connected! I've tried installing ActiveSync 3.6 and it still doesn't work. I'm using an older Gateway P3 500 with USB 1.1. I've got a USB optical mouse and I've tried plugging it in to both USB ports and it still works so I don't think it's a hardware problem. My Ax hadn't fully charged before trying to sync up but I don't think this would really be an issue either. Guys (and Gals), I could really use some help, this is very frustrating as I've already downloaded software for the Ax and I'm anxious to install it. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Well... I would try to re-run the Dell CD and reinstall the program(s) after reading over the instructions. I know this seems trivial but worth a try. Any other suggestion at this point would be moot.

Good luck...

Ciao,

Ron

When I installed Active Sync on my sons PC (XP) it took several attempts to get the Axim recognized. It started to work just after wiggling the sync cable connection to the unit. Before that the PC was checking com ports over and over again ... which is weird because that kind-of means it was seeing something connected. In other words, plugging in the usb cable started Active Sync, but then it failed to finish conecting.
I really don't know if it was a bad connection at the Axim end, or a software thing. Sometimes problems are as simple to fix as rebooting the PC before trying to sync, to get drivers loaded or whatever.
USB is funny.

Ok Try these:
a) Check you BIOS that all your USB ports are enabled
B) Check your Device manager that your USBs are working correctly
c) In Actsync make you you have "USB" selected, click files/connection settings
d) Go to Dells website and get these updated USB drivers ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/Handheld/

Hope this Helps.......

Figured it out guys, thanks for all of your input. The solution turned out to be very simple, once I turned the Ax on the computer recognized it and began syncing normally.

I had similar problems with Active Sync not recognising my Axim.

On advice from this forum , I downloaded Active Sync Version 3.6 , Installed it , and then did a Hard reset--

Viola ! all was well.

Try it.

That shouldn't even be necessary. The Axim will auto-on when hooked up.
