This morning I upgraded my desktop XP to Media Player 9.

Then I copied a file over to the Axim and tried to play it. Nothing happened. Media Player didn't even open. Clicking on the Media Player on the menu doesn't even start the program.

The version of Media Player on the Axim is 8.5. I thought maybe I could reinstall it in case something happened to it, but on the microsoft website it says this should only be done through the PDA manufacturer since it is part of a service pack for Windows Pocket PC that may have been installed already.

Any suggestions? I don't want to install a lower version. I tried soft resets but to no avail. Everything else seems to be working.

Thanks.

Lauren

I'm using WMP 9 on my PC and have copied several CDs and some mp3s to my axim with no problems or hangups. Output to wma format.
Do you have a backup file, pre-problem?

Others have reported problems with version 9, myself included. In my case, I converted an mpeg file for play on the Axim. On my desktop, it played fine. On the Axim, the sound wouldn't play. I downgraded and it worked fine.

I haven't seen any explanations as to what the issue is but unless you have some good reason why you need 9, I would save myself the frustration and downgrade until an answer becomes available. I've looked a bit myself but haven't come up with anything yet.

Forge,
What quality level do you use when setting up wmp9? I didn't do anything unique that I know of, but it works fine.

I used the Convert a file wizard and then chose Pocket PC for the distribution method. Works fine on the desktop but no sound on the Axim.

I use the transfer directly from Media Player on the PC to my Sync folder, and as far as I know there is no conversion. There is no setting in Options, Rules, Conversion for WMA or MP3 (in Active Sync).
If you have an entry for music files there, try No Conversion.

In Media Player ... Tools, Options, Copy Music I have Windows Media, Variable bitrate set

I copied some CD's to my music folder for the Axim but they would not play. It did play the MP3 though. How do you copy cd file extensions to the Axim and play them?

Figured it out. Thanks anyway. I have 3 media players. Axim works with WMP and Music Match. I haven't tried Nero yet.
