Active sync cannot find Outlook Profiles
--------------------------------------------------
So, this problem appears to be pretty obscure... but if anyone has run into it before or has any ideas, please help!

I am running Outlook 2002 (Office XP Pro) and Active Sync 3.6 [OS: WinXP Pro].

When I try to sync my AXIM with my PC it comes up with the error message "No profiles have been created. To create a new profile, use the Mail icon in the control panel."
I check the control panel - click on the mail icon and verify my profiles (I have 3 total). Following that error message, it says "Synchronization cannot be completed because your PIM program cannot be accessed."

Troubleshooting Thus Far
--------------------------------------------
I re-installed Office XP pro, ran all service packs, reinstalled Active sync 3.6 (tried 3.5 also), rebooted and hard reset the AXIM.
Tried to sync with a brand new partnership and again still no profiles found. Outlook by itself works fine running multiple
profiles. I even tried creating a new profile to see if it would recognize that.... no luck. So, this is driving me nuts! I can add/remove programs with Active Sync, but just can't connect to Outlook and sync Contacts, Notes, etc.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Have you used Outlook on your PC at least once while the Axim was connected to it?

I had the same problem. I had to disable Norton Anti-virus, Close Norton Firewall and
close Zone Alarm. After that was done I was able to sync. It took me three days to
figure this out. I was deleting programs, reinstalling Active Sync, Outlook 2002 and
MS Office to no avail. I closed everything down then it would recoginize my Axim.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions.

Here's what I ended up doing...

Win XP System Restore to before installing Active Sync. Disabled my Hotsync software for my Sony Clie (I'm thinking this was the program that screwed things up initially). Reinstalled AS 3.6, setup partnership, and verified it was syncing properly. Then I got the killsync util to shutdown AS. Loaded up Hotsync to sync with my Clie. Verified that was working, and then shut that down.

So, both seem to be working fine now syncing with the same Outlook profile (when run separately). I'm thinking what happened initially was I sync'd the AXIM and then tried syncing the Clie right after. That probably confused Outlook and messed it up good... to the point of unrecovery. Thankfully Microsoft got something finally right with the system restore functionality.
