Trouble Syncing word or excel files

I am having problems getting files to sync with axim. I have tried all I know to do, which is not much. Brand spankin new X5. It refuses to update word files from the PDA to the desktop. After many tries I decided to check some of the other Axim's at my place of work and none of them would sync word files changed on the pda. My old jornada did it without a hitch.

I've been able sync word docs and word templates that I created without any problems. I read that if the documents or spreadsheets have any formatting or formulas that is not supported by the limited versions that are on the PPCs there could be some problems. If not that.....where are you copying them to sync them? What version of active sync?

3.7.1 its the very latest just got the axim last week. I really dont understand why it wont sync. it wont on any of the new axims i have seen. the people that have compac and hp's have tried to set it up and cant figure it out. theirs sync just fine, i called dell today and they dont have a clue at least the man i talked to didnt

what do you mean by syncing word or excel files?
I copy Word files a lot back and forth to my Axim, and one Excel file. I have no problems reding the files on the Axim or back on the PC. When I copy them I go through the Explore on the Active Sync window and it quickly performs some conversion (or at least it shows it trying to perform some conversion).

I can copy them back and forth easily. It doesnt update the file as it should when i put it in the folder that is supposed to automatically sync whenever you put the axim in the cradle. it does e mail and contacts and calender perfectly. I am sure I am doing something wrong. Just cant figure it out yet.

Take a look on the PC/laptop that you sync on open up ActiveSync. Go to Tools--->Options--->SyncOptions tab make sure Files has a check mark next to it.

It does. I have found what is happening. It syncs the file in the sync file folder on the desktop, not the one on the hard drive. If I click on the file sync folder on the desktop the changes are there, but are not on the original file on the C drive. Thanks all for all the help
