Exclamation Ax Going Back to Dell (Details Inside)

I've decided to give the Axim X5 back to Dell.

I've had it about 16 days and have had nothing but trouble with it since it came.

List of Problems.
* Power button stopped working....solution...hard reset.
* Stopped syncing....solution...soft reset repeatedly
* Lags and Hangs...solution...soft reset

All of this in just the first week!

The last PDA I had, a Casio....I only had to hard reset once in the two years that I had it...and only then because I chose to.

With the repeated soft resets that I have to perform, I'm concerned that I'm going to wear a hole in the rubber around the reset button.

Oh and for all of the "Just download the shutdown utility from wherever." You can't use the software when the whole thing is hung.

Thanks to everyone for all of the help on the forums. It got me through most of the problems I've had with this thing.

This is the first time I have been dissatisfied with a Dell product and now I get to see just how easy it is to return something to them.

Has anyone had any experience returning something and can let me know what to expect?

Could it be an app you installed? Sounds software based.

Are you getting a new Ax as replacement or just giving up?

That's what I thought too! Unfortunately, the problems didn't quit after a hard reset. With just the base system, I got lags and hangs. After installing software, it would work great for a while then either wouldn't sync, or would just lock.

I have a mantra about personal electronics:

"If it takes more time to configure it, or troubleshoot it, than you actually get in use time, then it's time to find something else."

I'm not sure if I will replace it yet!

For the syncing problems.....

Did it attempt to sync and then fail? Or just not try to sync at all?

If it did not try to sync at all, were you plugging the cradle into a USB hub? Or directly into a USB port on your computer?

There have been some people who have had problems syncing through some USB hubs.
