I must say that Im intregued about the prospect of adding movies as a diversion for those downtimes at the airport, Doctors office and visits to the inlaws

" honey?, what are you doing with that thing while mother is talking about poochee? (A 13 year old dog that would be better suited named STINKEY)"

"Oh, this? I'm checking out a dog gift shop dear...or whatever."

So,

Where do you get movies for the Axim?
Do you convert existing movies?
Buy them?
Download them?

Any info is appriciated.

Heck I wonder if the judge would mind me watching one while I'm in divorce court?! :D

Have a happy new year all!

Mike

I saw on the dell forum that someone was able to convert Divx movies to some other format that really shrinks the file size down. Divx movies are pretty widely available on the web. You can also rip DVD's to Divx. I personally don't know how to do it, but if you go to www.divx.com there is a newbie section on there that will give you all kinds of info. If you use some web scouring Peer to peer app, you can find plenty of divx files that way.

Thanks for the info, I'll look into it. I think I've heard someone talk about converting MP3's and MPV's to WMA's to save space.

There is a great guide on the pocketmatrix.com site under guides for ripping DVD to DIVX. It's a lengthy process but worth it! I've used this guide since it was published and have had great results. A full length movie is typically around 200MB and the sound and video clarity are great using this method.

Hi,

I got my Axim a couple of weeks ago and tried a free download called pocketTV from pockettv.com. Works pretty well and they have links to other movie sites like pocketmovies.net. Mostly trailers and independant stuff from what I could see.

Being new to the PocketPC and playing movies on them, I saw the prior post and it said the movies can be like 200mb - how can you play them on a 64mb Axim? :P

Hi Mtw,

Here are a few movies that I have,

ICE AGE = 83 mb - Good quality display, ok sound
Minority Report = 154 mb - Good Quality display, good sound
Goldmember - I will probably do a dvd rip of that and encode that sometime.

I VERY much recommend using the tutorial at pocketmatrix.com because it outlines everything one would need to do. Try to cut down to about 150 mb and it will be great!

Zowie - To play movies on a 64 mb axim you could encode a full movie and try to limit to 100 mb. Then you can split the movie into halves and put one half of it on the axim. Pocket Divx seems to have a lot of problems with people trying to play movies so try to go with pocket mvp.

Good luck.

Use the memory slots. Get yourself a nice 256 or 512 mb RAM card.

Yup, try getting a 256 mb sd card to leave the cf slot open. A good deal for 256 mb card you can find at pcmall.com for $80 after rebates. I can fit about 2 movies at the most on this card.

Brian;
I went to the pocketmatrix.com site and saw a tutorial for ripping DVDs to DIVX. You recommend playing movies with pocket mvp... can that be done with pocket divx formats? Where can I get pocket mvp? is it this? ---> http://www.projectmayo.com/projects/detail...php?projectId=9
Thanks for the help.
