WiFi with Palm-based handhelds

My father has just told me recently that he's gonna buy a new handheld. I've been telling him to get one for a long time, since he is very unorganized, but just recently he made the decision to buy one. After playing around in Circuit City, he decided he likes the palm-based handhelds better and fell in love with the Tungsten T3 (probobly becuase of its expandible large screen). Despite that I've told him that an X3i would be best for him, he insists that he wants a palm becuase they are easier to use (??). Anyway, a major concern of his is wireless connectivity.

I know the T3 is SD/IO, but would it work with an 802.11b SD/IO card, like the socket one being offered on the Dell website for $100. If not, are there any SD/IO WiFi cars that would work with the Palm T3? And if you could get online, what would you use to browse the web on a palm-based device?

This may not be the best place to ask questions about palm devices, but I feel you guys are my community and I can ask you anything. Any help is appreciated.

I cannot in any stretch of my imagination figure out why anyone would pay $500 for a Palm. I mean... that's just... I dunno... dumb.

Well I'd have to agree with you, and i think is $400. Anyway, do you know if there is a way he can use WiFi with a T3, or will he have to get a PPC?

WiFi is the main reason I switched from Palm to PPC.

The SD WiFi card for PalmOS kept getting it's release date moved, so I eventually moved to an Axim X5 when it first came out. I have an HP 4155 now and am very happy. The X3i is a good choice also.

Now, as far as the screen, that one is hard to beat. The Toshiba e805 has a VGA screen and has built in WiFi.

Thanks JmE. I too, like my father, am impressed by the screen on the T3. However, it can't do half of what my Axim can. If I could get a new PDA myself, it would be an X3i or HP 4155. Anyway, i think built in wireless would be best for my father, so the Sony ones would be the only palm devices for him. However, he's not about all the bells and whistles and multimedia features, so he'll probobly end up with a PPC anyway. I like the new toshiba e805. I hope more PPC's come out in the near future with screens like that!

My recomendation is a 4150, or X3i. Much better than Palm based platoforms. I switched from a Palm M100 to a Jornada 565 and I love PPC OS. I then decided to get a new X3i to use side by side with my 565.

Maybe, it'll break his heart when I tell him that he can't have the stretch screen. O well, he'll probobly just go against my advice completely and get tht T3 anyway. He can still use bluetooth . . .
