Love my Dell, but one thing that happens fairly frequently is that the Brightness keeps resetting itself to the darkest (both 'On Battery' and 'On External' settings) when I turn it back on (whether putting it back in its cradle or firing it up outside the cradle). It doesn't consistently do this and I haven't been able to figure a pattern or if somehow I'm triggering this.
Anyone else seen this or have ideas on how I might be triggering this?

The on/off button has two functions. Press and release quickly (i.e. click) and it will turn the unit on and off. Press and hold for a second or so and the screen goes completely dark or back to previous setting. Could it be you are pressing and holding?

Check the manual to see how the power button controls brightness if you press and hold it rather than just quickly pressing and releasing. I know it works, but don't really understand it myself. Of all things to use for brightness ... the power button?

I noticed the exact same thing. This is what I found out after trying to duplicate.
If you take the Axim out of the cradle and try to immediatly turn off the unit, it will cause the screen to dim. If you wait a few moments, then try to shut off, it works perfectly.

That has to be one of the strangest design decisions on the Axim. I did that the first few times I powered it up or powered it down. Just didn;t think that holding it down would just dim the display.

If you look at page 12 in your User manual, It'll explain about the power button. My 2 cents....

Glad to read others have had this problem -- I just thought it was the "id10t" (me) behind the stylus.

My new unit (PPC 2003, A05) also resets itself to dim when put in the cradle - ocassionally, of course, not all the time. I think we may have to assume this is a "feature," not a bug. :crooked:

I had the same thing and found that if you check the "light display if a button is pressed or the screen is tapped" option in Settings/Brightness it works fine now. Hope it works for you too.

THANK YOU!
Thanks markthorpe! I started having this problem too and all I could find is people telling me how to use the power button! I know that! I had unchecked the "light the display if a button is pressed or the screen is tapped" because I didn't want device to turn on if it accidentally got tapped and drain my battery. Then I started noticing that my screen always turned on dim. THis was extremely aggravating! YOur post has saved me! THANK YOU!
