Outlook xp & Activesync 3.7.1 problems

My computer recently died, and when I purchased my new one, I planned to set up my Axim X5 just the way I had it on my previous computer. I installed Office XP and the latest Activesync and proceeded through the installation. After the data was syncronized, the Outlook program would not work on my PC - it kept freezing up and would not open - kept getting a 'program not responding' message. I removed & reinstalled all of the programs, and still the problem exists. A friend who looked at my computer says that he believes Windows files were somehow corrupted after I installed the X5. I even reformatted the hard drive. I installed Office XP and made sure that Outlook was working. After installing activesync and synchronizing with the PC, the same problem resurfaced and my Outlook on my PC just froze up. Someone please help me!!!!

Try this...

Although this isn't exactly the problem my friends were having with their X3, we did discover that McAfee antivirus on the Dell Dimension computer running Windows XP was NOT compatible in their case with the ActiveSync 3.7.1. Disabling the program didn't help. McAfee had to be completely uninstalled. Then everything worked fine. So, if you happen to have McAfee installed, try removing it and then reinstall ActiveSync.

I guess that is another reason why I really don't like McAfee. :p

I tried everything and am still having the same problem. I decided to do a hard reset and reinstall everything on the Axim and try over. For some reason, regardless of which version of Outlook or Activesync is used, the Outlook on the PC keeps freezing up and ceases to work. The thing that I can't figure out is why I have to format the hard drive on the PC for this problem to go away. Removing Office and Installing again without formatting the hard drive does nothing to stop Outlook from locking up. Frustrating and time consuming. Starting to wonder if I should change back to Palm. Any other ideas?
