What processor does my Axim have? I am confused with all different types, yet some of the software runs on multiple processor types. What is the difference in the different types.

Thanks

The Ax has an XScale processor and will run software compiled for the ARM/StrongARM processor, which includes basically anything for Pocket PC 2002.

Thanks,
Thats what I thought. Must have had a brain drain or something when I asked the question.

Eventually we'll have to be careful of saying "XScale processor".. right now there is only one that most people know of, so they say "It has the Xscale".. But XScale referrs to an architecture, and in this case there is an XScale "core" inside the PXA-250, along with a bunch of other stuff.. In fact this "core" goes inside a ton of processors on the market now, from network routers to phone switches, to storage controllers.

And then updates to the 'core' of the chip will come out, as well as updates to the other peripherals on the chip. So right now the chip is the PXA-250, and then we all hear about the PXA-255 which was announced, which is the C0 stepping of the PXA-250, but its got a new model because the cache bugs fixed are substantial.

People seem to think that the PXA-26x will be the next step, but thats already out, its not related to PDA's but used for other stuff.. it has flash and RAM built into the actual chip package.
