usb sync so sloooooow...

Does anyone know if there is a usb 2.0 solution for Axim syncing?

I have the dell sync cradle and it's so darn slow, my having a 256MB SD card doesn't seem like a good thing any more.

I thought about getting a CF wireless card for transferring files. That may be a solution but I hear it sucks up the battery like nothing.

Any info will be helpful.
Thanks

Yea the CF wireless card does suck up juice like a pack of um...towels?

To my knowledge, there is no way to make the Axim sync faster =P It syncs at around 150kb/sec (I think...)

What I have is a 6-in-1 reader that's USB 2.0 compatible. I can upload my files from my computer to the SD or CompactFlash with that. How much faster would depend on which SD or CF card you get...

Card readers are cheap and quite fast, at least much faster than usb syncing. Wifi syncing is also much faster than usb syncing, but wifi cards are considerably more expensive (and you need at least a wireless card for your pc, too, and probably you'd want a wireless router).

As for the battery usage, I guess it depends on what card you have, what sort of things you are doing, and how long you can afford to go between chargings. I have the Socket low power WLAN card, and I can go all morning with the standard battery before I need a recharge. I wouldn't call it heavy use, but I am transferring files and checking the web (aximsite, of course!) regularly during that time.

A CF wifi card does consume more power, but the syncing speeds are so quick that you should not see that much of a drain. Surfing the web and checking email, however, are a different story.

If you are going to be transferring files to your SD Card, I would recommend a 6-in-1 card reader. It is much faster than trying to transfer files via the sync cradle.

I agree. Activesync is very poor at syncing large files. However, if you want speed when syncing PIM (e.g., calendar, etc.) then wifi is great.

g8tor75,

Did your Axim come with WM2003 or PPC2002? PPC2002 is very slow as far as syncing is concerned. WM2003, on the other hand is very fast (I'd go as far as to say over 3x as fast). Backups that used to take 30-40 min to do are now taking less than 10min sometimes. If you're spending a lot of time syncing large files back and forth with PPC2002, the upgrade may be worth considering for you (assuming you don't use any software that is currently incompatible with WM2003).
