Trust your backup?

I did a total backup to CF and a PIM backup to NVRAM. The big problem is both failed to restore properly. The CF stopped at 86% - Dell forum says it's a corrupted backup. Did another hard reset and had POP3 email working until I restored the PIM database from built-in storage. That broke it. So is the only backup to be trusted the ActiveSync backup? And you cannot verify the backup except during a restore. I have to start over again and can't use either backup. Here are the details -

I've only ever used the Active Sync backup/restore, and it worked perfectly.

My backups failed a couple of times. But then worked.
I could never figure out what the problem was, so I'm not much help here. But at least you know your not the only one with a failing backup.

Can't speak specifically to the Axim, but after I had ppc techs clean and seal the screen on my 568, I had to do a restore from a B/U (on CF) I had performed before I shipped it to them, and it worked perfectly. There has been a mention of some CF and SD cards being less reliable than others, maybe that has something to do w/ it ??
