Speed and stuff

Okay, Axim Arives on Monday ...
I'm realy worrying now (i always do)
1 of 3 things is going to happen...
I'm gonna love it (hopefully)
I'm gonna hate it (.....)
or It's gonna be dead....

The thing i'm worrying about most is pocketPC being crap

I had the choice between the axim and the Palm Tungsten T ... I REALLY hope I made the right choice (like money, palmtops dont tend to gorw on trees)

The main reason i went for the dell is the xscale.... I have an xscale development kit and its quite fast (got a fair few triangles out of it, though no floating point really sucks!), however i have not tried windows on it yet!

I know windows has a tendancy to slow everything down ALOT!

Basicly...
How fast does stuff respond.... when i tap something is it instant or does it take a while
and anybody have any experiences running like doom and pocketquake, pocketmvp (or whatever), do they run well?
Is the interface nice? i have tryed some pocket pc stuff and it seems ... okay.. nothing special... didnt really play alot with it though.

And anybody know if anybody is working on a linux (or *bsd) port for it? If so, who (email address or other contact info, plz)

Thanks for any help....

(i know i sound like i'm worring too much, but 300 quid is alot of money to fork out on something that could potentialy end up being used for a paper weight!!!!)

It really just depends. When I go to the main start menu, there is about a 2-3 second delay. But when I go to the games part of the menu, there is about a ten to fifteen second delay because I have ALOT of games on it.

Like most PPCs, it all depends. Since most stuff is in RAM type memory, it is way faster than a desktop. Also it keeps the app loaded unless it needs to close it because of running out of memory, then it will close something. "Unless you have the small app that closes things when you tap the X"

Of course we soon get used to the increased response and even a 3 second delay causes impatience. You can leave it in 400 MHz mode and get a little more speed, but not much since the apps and OS are not yet optimized for the X-Scale processor (so I understand) We will have to wait for PocketPC 2003 for that I expect.

If you like the ablity to be able to play a wide variety of multimedia files, and saving money you made the right choice.

I don't really think it's heavy enough to be used as a paper weight. :p
