When I first got my X5, I installed everything....somewhere down the line, I stopped using the thing, and deleted most of the related files off my hard drive.....
now that I'm trying to reinstall everything, i keep getting error messages stating the activesync version on my pc is "more recent" than the one I'm trying to reinstall(from the Dell disk).
Everytime I try to "remove programs"(winxp), i get yet ANOTHER error message stating that the uninstallation will not continue because the file ****.exe cannot be located".
I don't even HAVE an activesync folder anymore....
What can I do short of reformatting my HD?
Thanks for your patience and your advice in advance!
Start from scratch. Delete ActiveSync from you PC (you may have done this already). Then install the latest version of ActiveSync 3.7.1 from http://download.microsoft.com/download. This is much more reliable and stable than earlier releases. Don't use the version on your CD which is almost certainly an earlier version. Set up 3.7.1 using a new partnership and you should have no more problems - I hope !
Whatever you do don't reformat your hard drive. This would be a totally drastic way to solve your problem and quite unnecesary.
Try getting the latest version of AS (3.7.1) from Microsoft. If that doesn't work, post back. I know there were some posts about completely removing AS.

Sweet..that worked......the only problem i'm having now is my inbox syncing ...I'm using microsoft express 6.......... is that conficting w/ the software on the PDA? My contact address box copied fine......again, thank you all very kindly for answering the n00b's questions.... there's MUCH more to come ;)
Delighted to be of help. Looking forward to your next questions !
That is exactly what Aximsite is for !
As usual Howard2K is absolutely right. It is a pity that ActiveSync cannot be configured to work with Outlook Express which is what I use most of the time for e-mails.
awesome..thanks janine...but yet(again), I'm running into another lil' problem. It copied two emails over to my PPC, then an error came up: " Address book: attention required"...when I click on the blue highlighted "resolve items", the pop up reads:
:"Items of one or more information types cannot be synchronized. Disconnect and reconnect your device. To view all error messages and dialog boxes that require your input, you must connect to this computer via infared or serial/USB cable"
any ideas? hate to be a pain in the butt so soon :)
n/mind..I GOT IT!!! I'm an idiot..active sync was trying to sync both outlook and outlook express.......needless to say..it's working now! woohoo!
do y'all have a good FAQ link for n00bs like myself? I'm JUST starting to get into this thing...i've figured out how to get music and videos on it..but how do i change skins/ themes? Thanks again!!
Nate22. FAQ question not easy. Its all on Aximsite, of course, but since we now have 28,837 threads and 200,888 posts things are not always very easy to find, especially if they were dealt with several months ago.
Try reading Rich Hall's new book "How to do everything with your Dell Axim" obtainable from McGraw-Hill at a 45% discount for Aximsite members - see the front page, past articles "A better deal on the Axim book" where you can order it from.
I have not yet received my copy but I hear that it is pretty good and should answer a lot of your newbie questions - which we all had when we started !
...and while you wait for the book, there are some Tutorials and FAQs linked in the Learning Center at the top of the page which may help .
